About Acharacle Community Company
Acharacle Community Company is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation established in 2001, originally formed to save the local Post Office from closure. What began as a single campaign has grown into a thriving charity and constituted body at the heart of the Acharacle area.
Today, the Company has over 130 members and is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors. Membership is free and open to anyone aged 18 or over who lives in the Acharacle area, ensuring that local people have a direct voice in shaping the future of their community.
Over the years, we have developed and supported a wide range of projects and activities designed to bring people together, build skills, and improve local wellbeing. These have included the Re-use Project, IT training, Local Produce and Craft Markets, and regular community events such as dances, bingo nights, Gaelic Coffee and Chat and community lunches.
Our Community Assets
The Company now owns and manages several key community assets, all of which play an important role in supporting local life and economic activity:
Our aim is to build a resilient, sustainable organisation that supports Acharacle for generations to come. By developing projects that generate reliable income while meeting local needs, we are working to become more self-sufficient and less reliant on grant funding—ensuring long-term benefits for the whole community.
As part of this commitment, we are proud to be a Living Wage employer. Valuing our staff and investing in fair, secure employment is central to how we operate, and it strengthens the foundation on which our community can continue to thrive.

- Community Centre – purchased from Highland Council and now a hub for community groups, local businesses, and events
- Shielbridge (Village) Hall – acquired in 2025, with plans to develop and enhance it in partnership with the community.
- Community Play Park – upgraded to provide a safe and enjoyable space for families.
- Community Garden – promoting sustainability, learning, and community engagement.
- Housing and Business Spaces – including Druim Garbh bungalow and leased premises supporting local enterprises.
